2017: A Year of Birthday Celebrations

Welcome to Da Capo’s 20th Year as a community chamber choir.

We have now begun rehearsals for an exciting year ahead. We have vacancies for all voice types and really encourage you to come along and join in to one of our rehearsals.

We are starting to plan all our concerts during the year and hopefully culminating in a big performance towards the end of the year with as many past choristers as possible. Although you are all welcome to come back and sing for the whole year :)

Over the next year I am going to create a blog for each year the Da Capo Singers have been operating and post photos, programs and a history of what went on that year. Please feel free to email photos, programs, newspaper articles or a bit of a history to me caitlinwebb88@yahoo.com, I’ll add them to my blog.

Happy 2017 all. I shall be in contact soon with set dates

As we come to the end of 2016, I thought we’d look back on an eventful year.

At the end of 2015 we said farewell to one of the best musicians, chorister from the beginning  and our leader of the last 9 years, Simon Loveless and started the process of finding a new Musical Director through auditions. Early in 2016, we met with Elena and offered her the position of guest musical director for our first concert of 2016. We commenced rehearsing in February after an extended break.

The first chance we got to perform and show the public what we had been learning under Elena’s guidance was at the first of 3 performances we did for the  City of Casey’s Citizenship ceremonies.

After a lot of rehearsing, Da Capo presented their first concert of 2016 on Sunday the 24th July, Songs from the Heart. The concert went really well and we had a lot of good feedback from our audience. After the concert at our first rehearsal back, we announced that we were pleased to introduce Elena as the new Musical Director for the Da Capo Singers.

Between the end of July and our next concert in October, Da Capo rehearsed, performed at the City of Casey’s Citizenship ceremonies twice and held our annual AGM and had a lot of fun and laughter in between.

As a bit of a change to a regular Da Capo concert of past years, our concert on the 22nd October was a repeat of our first concert with a couple of new pieces. Once More, With Feeling was well received by the encouraging but smaller audience.

During the last 5 rehearsal weeks of the Da Capo year (rehearsal time cut short by a few holiday weekends), we rehearsed a whole new program of Christmas music and some of our favourites from the year. After jumping over a few hurdles and a program change a week out from the concert, the Da Capo Singers presented their third and last concert of 2016, Rejoice, on Saturday 10th December to a wonderfully enthusiastic audience that joined in with some community carols at the end of the concert.

That’s all for 2016, bring on 2017 and 20 year anniversary celebrations.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported Da Capo through this year of unknowns and changes. We all really appreciate you coming to our concerts and watching us do what we love. I would also like to thank my fellow choristers for all their hard work this year and not giving up when it seemed like it was all too hard, and to Elena for being willing to take on the job of being our leader and filling such big shoes and putting up with us.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us at Da Capo

Vice President
Da Capo Singers

2017 – 20 years of Da Capo

Did you know the Da Capo Singers are celebrating 20 years of music making in 2017. The committee of management are currently planning celebrations to commemorate this special milestone. We would like to extend an invitation to all past members to join us for the coming year of celebrations. Please keep an eye on our website or facebook for updated information.

The original members of Da Capo Singers were graduates of the Melbourne Youth Chorale (formerly Berwick Youth Choir), one of Australia’s leading children’s choirs. The singers wished to continue to perform together, and to continue to sing quality repertoires to the most exacting standards possible. The choir now welcomes members from a range of backgrounds, who share this commitment to quality.
They have a particular commitment to the music of Australian composers, with their performances including several world premieres of such works. The choir’s credits include performances at Hamer Hall, Etihad Stadium and Rod Laver Arena. They have twice been invited to perform at Choralfest, Australia’s only national choral festival. They have released two CDs, have toured regional Victoria on several occasions, and have performed for many local community events and festivals. This is in addition to their annual concert series.
The Da Capo Singers have thrilled audiences with their eclectic music: Australian compositions, art music of all periods, folk songs of many cultures, and occasional excursions into gospel and jazz.

The Da Capo Singers have vacancies for ALL voice types. It isn’t often that a group such as ours advertises a need for sopranos and altos, so take advantage and message or email on 0417 808 088 or dacaposingers@yahoo.com.au for more information and to arrange an audition time.

Simon – Musical Director

It is with great sadness that I announce that our MD Simon is finishing with Da Capo at the end of the year.

Simon has been with Da Capo for 18 years (from the very beginning!). He has been MD for 8 of those. Simon is more than a MD, he is a highly regarded member of the choral community and a close friend. I am so privileged to have been able to work closely with him during my time with Da Capo (2 years).

We wish Simon all the very best for the future and thank him for his hard work, passion, love and dedication over the past 18 years.

We will be celebrating Simon’s time with Da Capo at a concert in October.

LOST – Choristers

Last seen rehearsing Classical, Folk and Contemporary Music in Berwick.
If you have spotted a singer/chorister without a home (we especially miss the male ones) please attempt to persuade and return them to the Da Capo Singers, A Fantastic SATB Choir in the Outer South East of Melbourne.

REWARD: A Great sounding Choir

DISCLAIMER: we haven’t really ‘lost’ choristers, we know where they are, it just would be illegal to kidnap them once a week for rehearsals. This is really just a recruitment advertisement, so if you sing, and like to sing in choirs contact Da Capo Singers on facebook or email!
