An exciting opportunity to work with one of Victoria’s finest chamber choirs.
The Da Capo Singers, a chamber choir located in Outer South East Melbourne, seeks a Musical Director.
The right candidate will have a high level of musicianship and knowledge of repertoire appropriate to a skilled and small chamber choir. Familiarity with the Kodaly concept and associated tools, including solfa is an advantage. Qualifications in music or music education is preferred, but not required.
This part time – ongoing position begins in 2016. Rehearsals are currently weekly on a Sunday night. The payment for this position is to be negotiated. This position is subject to a probationary period.
Founded in 1997, The Da Capo Singers have established a strong reputation within Melbourne’s choral community for their eclectic repertoire and performances of high standard. Da Capo is the only auditioned community choir in the area and prides itself on delivering exciting and diverse performances. We have an exciting and busy weekend coming up at the end of August.
On Saturday the 30th of August we are performing at the Experience Casey Festival. We are due to be on stage at 12.28!
Come along and hear Da Capo for FREE!
The festival will showcase Casey’s culturally diverse community and provide an opportunity for everyone to experience a variety of cultures through displays, interactive workshops, performances and food tasting in a vibrant market place atmosphere.
On Sunday the 31st of August we are performing at the Eley Park Community Centre in Blackburn South as part of the Eley Park Community Association’s concert series.
If you have wanted to get to a Da Capo concert, but our usual performance venues within the City of Casey are too far away… this is the concert for you!
The concert will feature many Da Capo favourites and have an international repertoire.

Our concert Southern Sounds was a huge success. We sang to a full house and attracted lots of new audience members. A huge thanks to everyone who helped to make the concert so wonderful!

Ever wondered what happens in a Da Capo rehearsal? Have you thought that Da Capo might be for you, but you weren’t sure? Here’s your chance to find out….
For one night only, Da Capo throws open the doors of their rehearsal. Find out what life is really like inside a chamber choir! Come to listen, or come to sing. Expect a highly eclectic mix of music including some challenges!
Supper is provided.

We have all been working exceptionally hard for our upcoming concert, Southern Sounds. There is less than three weeks (and only two rehearsals) to go!

Southern Sounds will showcase and celebrate music from Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific region.
The following works feature in the concert, and will captivate your heart and imagination:
- The Australian premiere of David Gordon’s “Sing A New Song”, incorporating a Maori-language singing of the Magnificat;
“Ka Hia Manu”, Stephen Hatfield’s unique take on Polynesian songs;
Noel Ancell’s setting of Henry Lawson’s call to arms, “A Song Of The Republic”;
- NZ composers David Childs and Leanne Daharja Veitch’s respective songs to the moon;
- Iain Grandage’s moving depiction of frontier conflict “Hush: On The Death of a Bush Church”;
- Ruth McCall’s re-imagining of “Waltzing Matilda”
- and Jimmy Barnes’ “Working Class Man” sung like it’s never been sung before!
Other featured composers include Timothy Sexton, Peter Sculthorpe, Stephen Leek, Clare Maclean, Linda Kouvaras and David Hamilton.
It is a concert not to be missed!

A couple of weeks ago we joined the City of Whitehorse Brass Band as the guest artist at their concert. It was a wonderful afternoon of music making. Da Capo was very well received by a new audience. We hope to see some new faces at our next concert.
